There was a show called paranormal cops that did just that and failed because they were not experienced enough in paranormal investigating.
They told clients they had ghosts when they had moths in reality.

But the idea you have is good. Some people have reported having intruders when there was no sign of a living being or break in and such.

Making yourself available to law enforcement is maybe a good way to pick up cases.
