Comment by Angel Hiner on August 14, 2012 at 9:36pm Thank you Beth! I will certainly put it on my list. LOL. Jeff City is quite a ways away from me. But will definitely have to check it out if I am ever other that way or maybe for a weekend road trip!
Comment by Beth Johnson on August 14, 2012 at 8:48pm Just if you go, make sure you introduce yourself to me as it'd be neat to meet someone from Haunted Society lol. I try to go to every overnight because the place has addictive energy to it. I also have a "psychic" acquaintance who is interested in joining our group that may be going to the overnight this month. She's from around Raytown I believe. Sorry, I plug MSP everywhere I go, I even recommended it to the winner of Ghost Hunters Academy, but I don't think he was as excited as I was. lol.
Comment by Beth Johnson on August 14, 2012 at 8:43pm I recommend doing an overnight at the Missouri State Penitentiary and asking them for guidance during that time. The guy that runs a lot of those has over 12 years of paranormal investigation experience and is very knowledgeable. He really helped train my group when we started. They are all very helpful and the location's activity is hard to beat.
Comment by Angel Hiner on August 14, 2012 at 7:47pm I was wondering if you knew of any groups near Independence that would allow me to tag along on an investigation or maybe even more than one. Just as an observer, I do not wish to participate at this time as I have never done an investigation and have no experience or knowledge on how to conduct one. I just want to see what all is involved and would really like to learn from an experienced team. Thank you for your time. I appreciate any help anyone may have or suggestions.
Comment by Heather Revie-Borland on August 4, 2012 at 4:00pm Hi Mary.
Welcome to Haunted Society and the MO forum :)
To put a team together it is time consuming, expensive, and difficult. I will not lie to you putting together your team is the easy part...staying afloat is the hard part. There were many groups that started here around Springfield awhile back and very little that are still going.
I know our group has basic rules that must be followed. We are REALLY picky on who we add as investigators as well. The rules and why we are picky is due to experiences we have had through the years. We lived and learned. Many people do not like us due to how picky we are. We try to be as professional as possible. We have a couple of investigations that, due to word of mouth, specifically asked for us for their investigation. I do not think that we would have stuck around this long nor had people as for us if we weren't picky and professional!!
I do have a few suggestions. If you have never been part of a group...do not start a group!!! You may think you are ready but you are NOT!! I can not stress this enough!!
Become part of a group for at least 9 months to a year. (prefer longer but 9mon -1yr minimum) Learn the ropes and pay attention...I mean REALLY learn and REALLY pay attention!! Be open minded. Take criticism well. Be kind and courteous. Do not take everything as paranormal!!! Think logically. Be professional. You can have fun and still be professional.
There are a couple of groups around that might take you under their wing while you get up and running. :) They will help you, but WILL NOT do everything for you. Basically, they will give guidance or advise and that is it.
So first step, be part of a group. Second step, learn the ropes. Third step, set up group. Fourth step add people to group. Fifth, get investigations. Sixth, do said investigation.
I wish you luck :)
Comment by Mary Moeller on August 4, 2012 at 2:37pm hi, is anyone here from around the springfield MO area? i am trying to organize a paranormal group in this region. and how easy is it or hard to get one together and have it actually work.
Comment by Heather Revie-Borland on August 2, 2012 at 12:56pm Kristy, I am sorry to hear you had that experience. Being a founder of a paranormal group, I know for what I am about to say I am going to get hell, but I am going to say it any way. Unfortunately, some groups, instead of ask for help from other groups in the paranormal world for advice or consult... if they don't know how to handle it or not been faced with it, they abandon the client. I think sometimes it is due to territorial issues, or think they know it all but don't, or aren't in it to help the client, or they are in it for fame and it clouds their judgment, or for whatever reason. I believe that all groups should work together for the cause of the client and for research to help the paranormal field out. Many groups believe in one or the other, not both. Anyway, I wish you luck on the answers you seek.
Comment by Kristy Henderson on July 2, 2012 at 6:50am Hello! I cant tell you how thrilled I am to find this website and this group,Missouri Paranormal Investigators. I live in MO and have most of my life. I have recently looked to a paranormal society for some advise on some experiences I have had in my new home and unfortunately was left to my own resources. I have had experiences my entire life with the paranormal, but it was only this past year that everything seemed to become much more intense. I hope to learn as much as I can about what is happening with me and with any luck maybe I can be of some assistance to others.
