Brad Brown Ky. P.A.S.T. Founder posted a statusPersonally I do not like Winter time for investigations unless it is an indoor investigation with heat and electric, during the Spring and Summer I don't mind Investigating without Electric because we have generators and battery arrays to power most of our equipment plus we have a wide variety of equipment that runs on battery power. Winter time downfalls are as follows.....COLD, see every breath, shaking during filming (I shiver when cold!), Noises due to freezing, thawing and settling everything and I will say it again....IT IS COLD. lol
On a serious note the noises, breath and other problems that show up during the winter are not worth doing outside investigations, now before I get a thousand comments, I have learned when doing Video, Still Pictures and even Audio to control my breathing and watch where I exhale so it is usually not an issue but when it is 10 degrees or less it makes it hard to not shake, exhale around the cameras and so on plus you breath harder at times.
The other reason I tend to stay away from outdoor and/or non heated indoor locations during the Winter is because chances of me or other team members getting sick and being sick for weeks at a time are increased and we are always doing investigations somewhere for someone and can't afford for any of our team to get sick and to take risks that can increase there chance to get a cold or pneumonia would be crazy.
I am not saying other teams should not investigate in the Winter, I am saying it is not good for my team and maybe a few others out there.
The pro's of Winter investigations are as follows....With Snow on the ground it helps with lighting at night, during a full moon things really show up in the Winter and especially with Snow on the ground, not as many people will be running around in old house to mess with your investigations, bugs and rodents are not out running around and the crisp air can help show mists, fogs and some forms of energy. Some locations have more activity during Winter months maybe because the death rate was higher? Who knows? Depends on the History and Location. Study this....
So enjoy your Winter how ever you do, I will stay where it is WARM and do outside and non-heated locations during the Spring, Summer and early Fall. lol
