ATHENS, OHIO — The Ohio University has announced their plans to demolish a historical building, that’s said to be haunted, before this coming Halloween… but many students and historical preservationists are objecting to the University’s demolition plans.

The Ridges Building 26 was once used as the Beacon School, but the 88-year-old historical building was originally built to serve as a tuberculosis ward at the state mental hospital that once owned the property, which was acquired by Ohio University in the 1980’s.

Officials at Ohio University said they’re hoping to demolish Ridges Building 26 before Halloween to prevent curious students and ghost hunters from trespassing and causing more vandalism to the building. “Ridges Building 26 has become an attractive nuisance” said Harry Wyatt, associate vice president for facilities.

Harry Wyatt said he’s not happy about demolishing a historical building, but in its state of disrepair he’s concerned for people’s safety. “When trespassers break in they’re putting themselves in danger” Harry Wyatt said, he continued “This is a part of my job that I hate, but personally and professionally, I’m convinced that this is the right thing to do for this building, for safety reasons.”

The state of Ohio has promised Ohio University $300,000 for the demolition of Ridges Building 26, and this has the historical society furious, and they’re wondering why the university isn’t using this money to rehabilitate the building, rather than tearing it down. “The building has historical significance as part of a still-intact mental-health campus that dates to 1868” said Tom O’Grady, President of Athens County Historical Society. “The building is not falling down, It’s deteriorating around the edges.”

K. Robert Toy, a lawyer on the historical society’s board, questioned why, if Ohio University is concerned about trespassing, they recently removed a fence that had been posted with ‘no trespassing’ signs. “If it’s an attractive nuisance, it’s more of one now,” K. Robert Toy said.

Ohio University Campus Police told Haunted Society that they’ve arrested 55 people in the last few years for trespassing at the haunted Ridges 26 Building. Most or all of which were thrill seeking students and ghost hunters breaking in to investigate because of the local folklore and claims of paranormal activity.

The last public statement given to Haunted Society Paranormal News was issued by Ohio University spokeswoman Renea Morris, who said, “The goal is for the building to be demolished prior to Halloween, but no demolition date has been set at this time. The project is going through final plan review and standard institutional approvals prior to its initiation.”

Students, preservationists and many people in the paranormal community are hoping that before Ohio University makes any final approvals for the demolition of the haunted Ridges Building 26, that they consider using the $300,000 toward rehabilitating the building and using it for a meaningful purpose. MESSAGE TO OHIO UNIVERSITY

This has importance to the paranormal community for a couple reasons, for one, we like many preservationists, prefer to preserve history whenever possible, but also because this building was once the location where many people died from tuberculosis. Of course with the rumors of the building being haunted, many people will be attracted to it, but if the building is haunted, this means that there are spirits within the walls of this building of every person who died there.

Haunted Society asks that Ohio University reconsiders their plans to demolish Ridges Building 26, and use the $300,000 to rehab, or at least, improve upon securing the building to prevent trespassers and vandalism. If they should still move forward with the demolition of the building, we ask that before doing so, that Ohio University consults a paranormal professional for a spiritual cleansing, to release the spirits of anyone left behind, or that’s attached, or stuck inside this building. U.S. NATIONAL NEWS — Recently, we reported on Ohio University’s plans to demolish a historical building, whose reason for the demolition is because of the local folklore and claims of paranormal activity attracting thrill seeking students and ghost hunters to trespass, break in, and even vandalize the former tuberculosis ward for the old state hospital.

After digging further, Haunted Society discovered that break-ins and trespassing reports related to haunted places have been at an all-time-high, nationwide, and with the 2012 Halloween season approaching, police are warning people that plan to investigate haunted places without permission, legal action will be taken.

In the past few years, campus police at Ohio University have arrested 55 people for trespassing and breaking and entering into the haunted Ridges Building 26. These arrests were all from curious people and wanna-be ghost hunters that trespassed and broke into the allegedly haunted building, some of whom even vandalized the property to gain access. Similar incidents have been surfacing nationwide, and it’s starting to give true paranormal investigators a negative reputation.

In the past month, over 200 police reports and arrests have been made for people who trespassed and broke into allegedly haunted places, including abandoned buildings, private property, and businesses currently in operation. A few weeks ago, in Trenton, Michigan two teens were arrested for trespassing at the old Riverside Osteopathic Hospital. The teens told police that they heard the abandoned hospital was haunted, and they were inside ghost hunting.

As paranormal investigators know, you should always get permission to investigate any place, whether it’s private property, abandoned, and most public places, but sometimes getting permission is not enough.

A federal lawsuit was filed this month by a woman who was falsely arrested for trespassing at an abandoned house, which she was given permission to investigate. Diane Briscoe and her sons, Jonathan and Alton, were conducting a paranormal investigation inside a house in Upland, Pennsylvania in September 2010 when police officers barged in. “They held guns to us, and even though we told them we had permission to be there, showed them the key and gave the officers the owner’s name and phone number, they still arrested us” said Diane Briscoe.

When she’s not ghost hunting, Diane Briscoe is employed as a police officer with the Chester, PA Police Department, but this too was not enough to stop the Upland police officers from arresting Diane Briscoe and her two children for trespassing.

The charges against Diane Briscoe and her children were dismissed after she was able to prove that she was given permission to investigate the reportedly haunted, abandoned house, and now she has filed a federal lawsuit against the Upland police officers for false arrest and emotional torment for holding her and the children at gunpoint.

This is a perfect example that sometimes having permission isn’t enough, and for this reason, Haunted Society suggests that ghost hunters should always first get permission to investigate a haunted place, and after you’ve got permission to investigate, if it’s an abandoned location, you should always notify the local police about the investigation. This way, the police officers that normally patrol the area where the place is located will expect to see activity that night.

Could all the hype with paranormal and ghost hunting television shows be playing a part in this increased interest in ghost hunting? We talked to Alice Newgen, from Ellijay, GA, a columnist with Chatsworth Times, and she certainly thinks so. “I feel that part of the problem is with so many radio and TV shows highlighting the paranormal it’s becoming more acceptable to be a ghost hunter” said Alice Newgen. “People need to be more careful, their actions could quite literally come back to haunt them… in more ways than one.”

WORLD NEWS — Many ghost videos can be found online, on websites such as YouTube, and even here on Haunted Society, but unfortunately not ever ghost video that you’ll watch is real. Whether it’s an honest mistake by the video maker, or the alleged paranormal activity has a natural explanation, or the video maker intentionally posts fake ghost videos, it’s rare that you come across a genuinely real ghost video.

Haunted Society has come across a ghost video on YouTube that might just be genuine paranormal evidence, or it could be a good example of the many fake ghost videos online… you can be the judge of that when you voice your opinion in the comment section below.

This ghost video is said to have been recorded in the attic of a 120-year-old haunted building, during a paranormal investigation conducted by a team of ghost hunters. One of the team’s ghost hunters posted the video to YouTube under the name “Tobias Schwarz”, and said that the ghost apparition caught on camera in this attic is the best paranormal evidence that he’s ever seen. In the video description, posted by the YouTube username TobiasSchwarz, he says that the video of this ghost apparition was analyzed by some of the top paranormal researchers, including Paul Bradford from GHI (Ghost Hunters International), Bill Murphy from the television show Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, and the founders of MUFON, just to name a few of the people that he listed.

However, even though the list of paranormal professionals that Tobias Schwarz says analyzed this ghost video, he doesn’t mention, even briefly, that any of these people agreed, or disproved this as not being genuine paranormal evidence. Haunted Society will be looking into this further, with statements from the paranormal researchers that were listed in this videos description on YouTube.

It could be a real ghost video, but when Haunted Society looked into this, we noticed it’s the only video posted on this YouTube Account, and when researching the name, the only thing we found online was professional listings for a Tobias Schwarz as a “Story Artist” and some Google Search Results say that he’s a video imaging specialist. However, nothing indicates a Tobias Schwarz being part of any paranormal team, and with the combination of a story artist and professional video imaging specialist, you can’t help but to question the authenticity of this ghost video.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Hundreds of paranormal investigation teams have been sprouting around the United States this year, but very few of these ghost hunters have police officers on their team, or have an entire paranormal investigation team of police officers.

Olde City Paranormal is a paranormal team co-founded by a police officer and a tattoo artist, and the ghost hunting team has become a small police force dedicated to investigating the paranormal.

Philadelphia Police Officer, John Levy, founded the paranormal team in 2009 with Steve Rotondi, and Olde City Paranormal grew their ghost hunting team with Philadelphia Police Officer Amanda Levy, who is John Levy’s wife, and also Police Officer George Feinstein, an officer assigned to the city’s Mayor detail.

Officer John Levy said he became interested in the paranormal from watching television shows such as Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures, but it wasn’t until he had a firsthand paranormal experience that he decided to investigate the paranormal himself.

John Levy stopped by his mother’s empty house while on patrol one night to use the restroom, when he says out of the corner of his eye he saw a figure walk into a bedroom where his grandfather used to sleep. “It was my grandfather, but he has been dead since 1988,” Levy said. “There was no doubt in my mind it was him – his height, his walk, his stature – it was him.”

This is when police officer John Levy founded Olde City Paranormal with tattoo artist Steve Rotondi and his wife and colleagues from the Philadelphia Police Department, and since, the ghost hunting police officers have been investigating dozens of haunted places and claims of paranormal activity all over Pennsylvania.

Olde City Paranormal isn’t the first team of ghost hunting police officers… In Chicago, police officer Rob Fabiani founded his police force of ghost hunters, which led to a paranormal series on the A&E Network called Paranormal Cops. Although the television show Paranormal Cops wasn’t a success like Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures, Rob Fabiani and his team of ghost hunting police officers continue to investigate haunted places in Chicago.

Officer John Levy said “there isn’t anything special about police officers investigating the paranormal”, but Officer Rob Fabiani disagreed, saying “Being police officers, it raises the bar. If I was a plumber I could lie through my teeth and go back to work tomorrow. As policemen, we don’t have the luxury of being reckless. We’re held accountable for what we say.” Perhaps Rob Fabiani’s statement was a dig at Ghost Hunters stars Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson?

A few well known haunted places in Philadelphia include the Eastern State Penitentiary… the Library Hall, on 5th Street, which is said to be haunted by the ghost of Benjamin Franklin, and the Philadelphia Zoo, the oldest zoo in America, is said to have two haunted buildings, the Solitude House and Penrose Building.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — It might not come as a surprise, but Paranormal Activity 5 is scheduled to hit movie theaters by Halloween 2013… Haunted Society is wondering will you be watching it, or are the movie makers wearing out their welcome with another sequel?

Paranormal Activity began as a low budget ‘lost tape’ docu-style movie back in 2007, but the success of the film motivated the movie makes to continue the legacy of the horror movie with a sequel the following year, and now every year since, a new Paranormal Activity has been released in movie theaters every Halloween season to follow.

Although the movie has received mixed reviews, and more film critics are weighing in with negative movie reviews, Paranormal Activity still seems to be leading box office sales year after year.

WARWICK, RI — There are several unconfirmed reports tonight that Brian Harnois, former star on the hit shows Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International is missing, and reportedly left a suicide note on his personal Facebook page.

Haunted Society has placed phone calls to PR reps for the Ghost Hunters show to inquire about the reports trending on Twitter that Brian Harnois has left a disturbing note on his Facebook page, where Harnois was hinting at suicide and said goodbye many times throughout the message.

WARWICK, RI — There was an emotional out-pour over the past 24-hours on social media sites after a disturbing suicide note was left on the personal Facebook page of EX-Ghost Hunters member Brian Harnois. The suicide note posted by Brian Harnois read as follows…

“I wanted to write this note to say goodbye to a certain few that need to know what happened to me. I have fucked up my life again to the point of no return this time. I am homeless, jobless, and penniless. I have 2 wonderful daughters who deserve a lot better than what I can give them, and deserve better in life than what I would ever be able to give them. I love them both very much and this goes out to them the most. I am sorry daddy is such an extreme fuck-up. I could never get my crap together and you both deserve better then this. I love you both very much and will always be there to see your accomplishments in life. Because I know you will both do amazing things. You both will probably never know the amount of love I have for you two and that is my fault. I have been an extreme mess for almost all of my 36 years on this earth and enough is enough. I have lied, stolen, and done some other really bad things, but the one thing I can say I did right was bringing you two into the world. I love you both babies and will miss you SO MUCH!!! I have not seen or talked to you both in over a week and it has killed me more and more every day. I am in a deep depression and know I will not come out of it. As for you Michelle, I know now more than ever that I was in the wrong for 90 percent of the 7 years you have known me. I don’t know if you will ever read this, but if someone could pass this on to her it would be great. I can’t call you because I am to afraid of what might be said as I know I can never have you back. You were my one true love. I realize that now more then ever. You were my soul mate and someone that I could have lived with forever. And to know I messed that up is to much for me to bare anymore. You were my world, and I shit all over you. I know it was weird the way we met but I think it was fate that we did. I am SO SORRY that I messed things up like I did. Please forgive me one day. I wanted to give so much to you but in the end I couldn’t even scrape two pennies together for you and that was the last straw. I love you Michelle, and I always will. Following him leaving this message on Facebook, Brian Harnois was reported missing, leaving many family members, friends, and fans of Harnois and the Ghost Hunters show in shock and feeling helpless. Then, earlier today, it was announced that Brian Harnois was found safe and alive, leaving many people wondering if this was all a hoax, or a desperate plea for help.

The Warwick, Rhode Island police said the case is still under investigation, and no comment will be given at this time. The boy who cried wolf, and his troubled past, has cost Brian Harnois many relationships, friendships, and jobs, including his position as a paranormal investigator on the SyFy television shows Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International.

While many people are relieved to hear the news of Brian Harnois being found alive and safe, we are currently looking into the details of this most recent cry for help, or attention, by Brian Harnois, looking back on his troubled timeline to understand what makes an average person, turned Ghost Hunters television star, go from being ordinary to stardom, back to ordinary again, and feeling the need to seek out attention of the limelight, no matter the cost or risk on his reputation.

HOLLYWOOD,  CA — While some people are wondering the chances of a Haunted Highway Season 2, the news of a recent acquisition by a United Kingdom television network for two paranormal shows, might be a clue about the future of the new SyFy television show.

London based television network, UKTV, has inked a deal with NBCUniversal for broadcasting licenses of two paranormal shows that originated in the United States. The acquisition includes Haunted Collector, and one of the newest paranormal shows on the SyFy channel, Haunted Highway.

Haunted Highway follows two teams, lead paranormal investigators, Jack Osbourne and Dana Workman, and the second team, Jael de Pardo and Devin Marble, as they investigate frightening claims of paranormal activity along America’s remote back roads.

The first season of Haunted Highway had six highly viewed episodes that featured examinations and investigations that took the two teams of paranormal investigators off the beaten path in Montana, South Dakota, Minnesota, Arkansas and Louisiana as they investigated local folklore such as hell hounds and skin walkers, and also the most credible claims of ghost sightings and other paranormal phenomena.

In the Haunted Collector show, the Zaffis family believe ghosts and spirits inhabit more than just homes and buildings, they can live in objects too. The Haunted Collector follows John Zaffis and his team, including members of his family, as the paranormal investigation team tracks down haunted items, such as paintings, guns, jewelry and dolls. During their paranormal investigations, John Zaffis and his team finds items in homes and businesses that have spirits and demons attached to them, and helps people to either cleans, dispose of, or collect these items in a museum that’s owned by the Zaffis family, that’s full of haunted items.

The UKTV channel, “Watch”, will air their version of Haunted Highway and Haunted Collector to the British in 2013. Steve Hornsey, general manager of Watch, said: “Haunted Highway and Haunted Collector complement Watch’s line-up of ‘out of the ordinary’ programming in 2013, which already includes Beauty and the Beast, The Jonathan Goodwin project (title TBC), Primeval: New World and season 3 of Dynamo.”

The head of acquisitions and co-productions for UKTV, Alexandra Finlay, brokered the acquisition of the two US origin paranormal shows. “These new television programs fit perfectly within Watch’s remit to provide new content with a distinctive twist.” Alexandra Finlay said.

STAUNTON, VA — The employees and customers of the Mrs. Rowe’s Restaurant have been reporting paranormal activity in the restaurant, which has been happening more frequently in recent days.

“There’s obviously something here,�? said Michael Digrassie, owner of Mrs. Rowe’s Restaurant, “We don’t know who it is or what it is, but there’s some kind of activity going on.” Michael Digrassie said he doesn’t feel threatened by the paranormal activity happening in the restaurant. “It’s friendly, and it doesn’t seem to bother anybody, so that makes it okay.�?

Ghost hunters from a paranormal investigation team called Twisted Paranormal Society will be conducting their second paranormal investigation at Mrs. Rowe’s Restaurant this week.The team will focus the majority of their investigation inside the back dining room area, since this is where most employees say they have witnessed paranormal activity, including ghost sightings, particularly an apparition of a young girl.

Elsewhere, In Akron, Ohio, there have been several reports of paranormal activity in the Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, a historic mansion that’s open to the public for event rentals. Paranormal activity, including ghostly sightings of a woman wandering throughout the 65-room historic mansion have been reported.

Currently, it’s unknown whether any paranormal teams have scheduled a paranormal investigation of the Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, for more information about this establishment, visit their website here.

Now internationally, reports of paranormal activity have been reported in the Three Nuns Public House, which is a pub located in Mirfield, a small town and civil parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, in West Yorkshire, England.

The haunted pub is no stranger to paranormal investigators, as it’s been featured on the UK television show, Most Haunted, but now a Dewsbury based paranormal team, GCUK, will be investigating new reports of paranormal activity at the Three Nuns Public House, later next month.

EAST BRIDGEWATER, MASS — It will not be business as usual this weekend at the East Bridgewater Town Hall, after town officials voted to approve a paranormal investigation of the haunted town hall during yesterday’s Board of Selectmen meeting. Paranormal investigator, Phillip Brunelle, and his team of ghost hunters, will be investigating many reports of paranormal activity at the town hall on Saturday, May 18th.

The East Bridgewater Town Hall was built in 1850, as the home of a judge, Hon. Aaron Hobart, who also served as a Massachusetts State Senator, and a member of the U.S. Congress. The house remained in the Hobart family for over 100 years, and within that time many members of the Hobart family died inside the house, including Aaron Hobart and his wife Maria Hobart, which are two of the spirits that are said to still be haunting the house to this day, while it’s now being utilized as the East Bridgewater Town Hall.

According to public records, the Hobart Estate was sold to the town of East Bridgewater for $25,000 in 1954. Soon after, the house was converted into the East Bridgewater Town Hall, and since then, several employees, town officials, police officers and town residents have reported many unexplainable instances of paranormal activity inside the town hall, giving it a reputation for being the town’s most haunted building.

The reports of paranormal activity in the haunted town hall include cold spots and strange gusts of air that feels like someone walking by you, strange sounds, footsteps and voices, orbs and apparitions appearing in photos and to the naked eye, lights going on and off and the elevator operating on its own, without any cause or need of repair found. These are just some of the many reports that have been documented over the years, and while some of the paranormal activity is indicative of a residual haunting, other paranormal activity that’s been reported suggests the existence of intelligent spirits in the East Bridgewater Town Hall.

“What’s most exciting about this investigation is knowing that the reports of paranormal activity originate from some of the most credible sources.” said Phillip Brunelle. “These are town employees, Selectmen and other elected officials, police officers, and even the ‘average people’ are considered as upstanding and well respected residents of East Bridgewater.”

Just last month Phillip Brunelle and his team investigated reports of paranormal activity at the Middleboro Town Hall, which is a neighboring town of East Bridgewater. “These town halls are right in the heart of the infamous ‘Bridgewater Triangle’, which is a 200 square mile area located in southeastern Massachusetts that consists of a dozen cities and towns where there have been countless reports of paranormal activity”.

Phillip Brunelle is planning to conduct paranormal investigations at several reportedly haunted locations within the Bridgewater Triangle. Each investigation will be featured in an episode of Brunelle’s new paranormal web-series, which premiers later next month on his YouTube channel, Mass Most Haunted.

Aside from the Middleboro and East Bridgewater town halls, other haunted locations that Phillip Brunelle has investigated, or plans to investigate, include a haunted stone mill in New York, the Houghton Mansion located in North Adams, Massachusetts, the USS Salem, a haunted battleship in Quincy, Mass. the AOH Club, a private Irish club in Salem, Mass. another mansion in central Massachusetts, which is commonly called the ‘Haunted Victorian Mansion’, where ghost hunters from the television show Ghost Adventures filmed their paranormal investigation just two weeks ago.

“Some of the haunted places that my team is investigating are prominent in the paranormal field and have been featured on paranormal television shows, while many other places haven’t been investigated before.” said Phillip Brunelle. “I’m hoping to entertain and educate the public about each of these haunted places, and hopefully along the way we will discover some of the answers to the infinite questions surrounding the paranormal, which captivates the curiosity of so many people.”

Phillip Brunelle does not charge for paranormal investigations or any of his teams services… In fact, this weekend’s investigation of the East Bridgewater Town Hall will not cost the town hall or taxpayers a penny. “Researching and investigating the paranormal is a passion of mine, and a passion of each member on my team,” said Phillip Brunelle, “The expenses associated with conducting paranormal investigations, such as the cost of my investigation equipment, third party services or individuals, any location fees and travel expenses, all comes out of my own pocket.”
